Applications/Process Engineer-ASMPT AEi

Active alignment of lenses and sensors is the preferred method for assembling precision cameras particularly for emerging automotive applications for safety and vehicle guidance. This is a rapidly evolving and high-growth market. The Applications/Process Engineer builds the connection between customer product requirements, alignment system capabilities, and efficient production processes. We will provide training for technologies beyond the core competence of the qualified candidate.

The person in this position is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of customer applications, manufacturing, and test processes for the active alignment of cameras in a production environment. In addition, this Engineer will install, train, and provide service on the ASMPT AEi active alignment system. As a member of the applications team, this hands-on individual will work with engineering, operations, sales and the customer to execute the following:

  • Develop and refine precision manufacturing processes on customized automation machinery developed by ASMPT for active alignment of precision cameras
  • Create prototype product builds, including process data collection and evaluation against detailed customer requirements.
  • Provide project leadership for new machine start-up, debug and validation including Final Acceptance Test of systems with customers
  • Collaborate with customers to define specifications and requirements for active alignment, develop application processes and resolve technical and design issues during machine acceptance.
  • Interact with mechanical, electrical, optical, and software engineers, manufacturing and service technicians to ensure goals for schedule, functionality and budget are met.

Read/Work from schematics, blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical orders (ECO’s)

Work with hand tools, power tools, precision instruments, and test equipment

  • Preparation of all required support documentation.

You must be self-motivated and able to complete tasks independently. You must be comfortable working with multi-national cross-functional teams, sales and customers. Clear communication /problem solving skills are essential.


  • BS in an engineering discipline (electrical, computer, optical, mechanical)
  • Industry experience in automated manufacturing, test processes development or capital equipment (optoelectronics, semiconductor, or similar)
  • 3-5 years field service experience with Electro-Mechanical-Optical systems


  • MS Office Excel proficiency including basic understanding of statistics and related data reduction tools.
  • Initiative and responsibility for successful execution of multiple tasks through all project stages
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required, must be capable in business/technical communication in technical English.
  • 30%+ travel expected to support domestic and international customer sites

Valuable Skills

  • Programming, machine control sequencing, and experience with PC-based control hardware including motion controllers, National Instruments I/O boards, and machine vision.
  • Familiarity with electrical control and video stream interfaces to CMOS cameras.
  • Familiarity with optics and optical test is a plus
  • Familiarity with UV-initiated adhesives is a plus
  • Technical Language fluency in Spanish, Japanese, and/or Korean is a plus.
